Definition:
1.      Expressing Satisfaction      : Expressing good feeling, sense of comfort or happiness.
2.       Expressing Dissatisfaction : Expressing lack of satisfaction.
Expressing Satisfaction
·         It is with great pleasure that …!
·         It gives me great satisfaction.
·         I am very pleased with it.
·         A most delightful example of …
·         What a beautiful story!
Expressing Dissatisfaction
·         It’s disappointing that …
·         It is unacceptable.
·         This is the limit I will not take anymore of …
·         Well, this is most unsatisfactory.
·         The concert is so boring.
Examples of Expressing Satisfaction:
§  
    I am satisfied with the exam result of my students.
§  The good news is satisfying.
§  Te result of your test are satisfactory.
§  Your success will be a great satisfactory to your parents.

Examples of Expressing Dissatisfaction:
§   
   Nothing satisfied him. He always complaining.
§  The bad news dissatisfied me.
§  The workers were dissatisfied with their salaries.
§  The preparation for basket ball competition is dissatisfying.

•Robert  : How do you feel about this food?
•Terry     : Wow….. I am very satisfied. It’s very       delicious. Great!
•Robert   : Yes, I think so. Would you have anymore?
•Terry     : Yes, of course.
•Robert   : I will take some for my younger sister. She’ll be very happy.
•Terry     : Yeah and I will take for my mom at home.
•Robert   :  OK. Let’s go home. I never feel satisfied  before.
•Terry     : So am I.
Expressing Dissatisfaction Dialogue
•Paul       : Have you read today’s newspaper?
•James   : Not yet. Is it interesting?
•Paul      : Yes, the apology from the company. Take a look. The paper is over there.
•James   : (Picking up the newspaper and starting to  read it) Is that all?
•Paul      : Yes.
•James   : This is not enough. I’m not satisfied yet. The size of the ads should have been half  of the page. Besides, the company only apologized but they didn’t mention what they would do.

Expressing Relief, Pain and Pleasure


EXPRESSING RELIEF,PAIN,PLEASURE



Expressing relief is a a feeling of cheerfulness or optimism that follows the removal of anxiety, pain, or distress.
EXAMPLE EXPRESSING RELIEF 
o   Oh, that’s relief.
o   Thank goodness for that.
o   Thank heavens!
o   Oh, good!
o   Oh, marvelous!
o   Oh, what a relief!
o   That’s alright, then.
o   Phew.
o   Thank God for that.
o   I’ m very relieved to hear that.
o   I’m extremely glad to hear that.
o   What a relief!
o   Good for you.
o   I’m glad it’s done.
o   I’m glad everything is running well.
o   I feel so relieved.
o   This ointment relieves my pain.
o   It’s very relaxing.
EXAMPLE EXPRESSING RELIEF DIALOGUE 
Dialog 1
Situation: You have finished your lunch at a restaurant near your school. Suddenly you discovery you have no cash to pay for it. You ask the cashier if she will accept a cheque.
Robby                 : sorry, but is a cheque avaible here?
Sofyan                 : yes, certainly.
Robby                 : thank goodness for that.
Dialog 2
Situation: the sun and the Moon invited the Ocean to their cottage. The Ocean asked them whether he could come with his friends because it was impossible to leave his friends.
The Ocean                   : May I go with all of my friends?
The Sun                       : Ceartainly.
The Moon                    : I’m glad everything is running well.
Dialog 3
Situation :You borrowed your friend’s new digital camera. It suddenly stopped working. You have taken it back to him.
You                  : I’ m terribly sorry, I think I’ ve broken it.
Your friend         : It’s okay. The main buttons come out, that’s all.
You                  : that’s a relief.
Expressing pain is an unpleasant sensation occurring in varying degrees of severity as a consequence of injury, disease, or emotional disorder.
EXPRESSING PAIN 
 -Ouch!That was hurt
 -It is painful
-It hurts me
-I’ve got a backache/toothache/stomachache
-I feel sore all over
-My eyes hurt
-My body aches./My muscles ache.
-Oh,it’s killing me!


Expressing pleasure is an expressions about something that gives or affords enjoyment or delight.
EXPRESSING PLEASURE
·    Great!
·    Terrific!
·    I’m pleased.
·    I enjoyed it.
·    I love it.
·    It was terrific.
·    I’m delighted.
Example:
fitra: Barnney, how is your new job? Do you like it?
sofyan: No, it doesn’t seem like what I imagine before. How about yours?
Fitra: I’m delighted! My boss is very kind person. He gives me a lot of work to do but he always appreciates my work eventhough it is bad.
Sofyan: What a lucky man you are! Congrats boy!

Asking Opinions (menanyakan pendapat) :

  • Is it right what I’ve done?

Giving Opinions (memberi pendapat) :
  • I’m convinced that ….

  • In my opinion, .…
  • I think ….
  • I think we should get a new car. (Saya pikir kita harus membeli mobil baru)
  • I don’t think we need one. (Saya pikir kita tidak butuh)
  • I believe (that) smoking should be outlawed. (Saya setuju – bahwa – merokok harus dilarang)
  • I don’t believe (that) it should be illegal. (Saya tidak setuju – bahwa – itu ilegal)
  • In my opinion, Gone with the Breeze is the best movie ever made.(Menurut saya, Gone With The Breeze adalah film terbaik yang pernah dibuat).
  • I feel that it’s the right thing to do. (Saya pikir itu hal yang tepat untuk dilakukan)
  • I don’t feel that it’s such a good idea. (Saya tidak menganggap itu ide yang baik)
  • Contoh dialog Expressions of giving and asking for opinion :
Hikmah : Hey Indana ! Do you know the hot news in our school ?
Indana : Yes, I know. About the minimum score, isn’t it ?
Hikmah : Yes, exactly. What do you think ?
Indana : I think it so high. I believe that is bad idea.
Hikmah : I don’t think so. Precisely with the 70 score, we can go into the University easily. With PMDK program.
Indana : Yes, I know it. But, for everyday it so hard.
Hikmah : Maybe, it can be the pole for us to be better than yesterday. I hope we can do it. Although it so hard.
Indana : Ok. Amin.
